Guide to help you at U-Con Advice on getting there, parking there, and surviving there. I leave programming to the con staff, but as an alum and general lurker here are some tips. |

1.) Getting There
And speaking of basketball. If you are
headed into or out of UConn during the time surrounding that it
might be a good idea to know of the area. This outlines the
approaches to the University. Most people just take 195 but of
course since they do, traffic on a two lane road gets quite back
up. Others approach from 44. If you're savvy you can take note of
the side roads that slip into the university (which may be backed
up I don't know but fewer people know of them.) This is
especially important to know during the basketball games, of
which there is one February 6th. And this map shows a more local view, of
all the ways into campus. Most of the parking lots are marked
with either a green or red circle. The parking garages are marked
with green and red squares. See the parking section below for
more detail. Travel time from major metro areas. Hartford, CT 37 mins New Haven. CT 1 hour 15 mins New London, CT 58 mins Stamford, CT 2 hours 2 mins Boston, MA 1 hr 38 mins Worcester, MA 1 hr Springfield, MA 58 mins Lowell, MA 1 hr 39 mins Providence, RI 1 hr 28 mins New York, NY 2 hr 56 mins Albany, NY 2 hr 27 mins Nashua, NH 1 hr 59 mins Manchester, NH 2 hr 16 mins Portsmouth, NH 2 hr 29 mins Montpelier, VT 3 hr 47 mins Portland, ME 3 hr 18 minutes 2.) Parking If you're going up to UConn prior to Friday
at 5pm. Your only two parking options are to park in the pay
garages located on this map marked in red. The student union is
also marked in red: Here is the information on the prices for
each garage. North Garage Parking Info:http://park.uconn.edu/index.php?module=parking_northgarage If you are coming up to UConn after Friday
at 5pm, Saturday, or Sunday, here are the following parking
options open to you. Anything circled in red, or outlined in
light blue. (With one very important exception) is open for
parking. The two garages cost money, any of the lots are free to
park in. 3.) Foodage/Stuff Student Union: http://studentunion.uconn.edu/foodanddining.html Co-Op: Just down the street from the
student union labeled by big lighted letters that say
"UConn-Co-Op" there is food in a convenience store that
is open late. Blue Oak Cafe: Is the restaurant inside the
Nathan Hale Inn Southeast District: Tedeschi Food Shops: Convenience Store open
24 Hours, there is also a subway inside. Wings over Storrs: Wings Chang's Garden: Chinese Friendly's D.P. Dough There are a couple pizza places and a Sushi
place as well. Northwest District: There's a subway, dunkin donuts, pizza place, chinese restaurant, possibly an indian restaurant (wing's express), mediterranean, and Ted's sub place, a convenience store, as well as a bar or two. Nearby: 10 Minutes one way on I-195 is the East
Brook Mall inside is a Papa Gino's and other eateries and close
to that a McDonald's. Also in the Mall is other things including
a movie theatre. Nearby is a Wal-Mart that I believe is open for
24 hours, and there are other eating places. There is also a
grocery store. There isn't much in the way of gas stations
between UConn and the mall though. 10 Minutes the other way there is another
grocery store. There are numerous gas stations nearby. There is also a supermarket on Route 44
near the campus.

HOWEVER, on Saturday, all of the lots surrounded by light blue
will close at 3:30 to be event parking for the Basketball game
which starts at 8pm. I'm not sure if you're already parked inside
if you can stay there or not, but I believe you can pay event
parking to park there, but I'm just not sure how it works.
From the parking services website...
"Parking demands during events in the Harry A. Gampel
Pavilion necessitate that the North and South Parking Garages and
several surface parking lots (Employee Lot 8, behind McMahon; Lot
9, west of the North Garage; Student Lot X) be designated for our
event patrons. These lots will be posted to indicate our event
parking restrictions. These areas will be reserved for Gampel
event attendees beginning at 3:30pm for night games and three
hours before the start of day games. Vehicles violating these
signs are subject to ticketing and/or towing. For a list of
basketball games at Gampel Pavilion for the 2009 - 2010 season

event dates and designated lots, call Parking Services at (860)
